Special Requirements for the Points Operator (PO) Course

  • A valid Track Safety certificate endorsed with either IWA or COSS Competence must be presented to the trainer at the start of each event
  • A Rule Book must be brought to the event by each delegate
  • Candidate CANNOT have a Red Triangle – Working alone restriction
  • FULL high visibility PPE and safety footwear is required on this event

Who Should Attend the Points Operator (PO) Course

For those who are required to manually operate power operated points which have failed or have been disconnected. A Points Operator works to the instructions of a Signaller or Route Setting Agent, according to the complexity of the failure.

Objectives for the Points Operator (PO) Course

On successful completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate their ability to interpret relevant sections of the Rule Book/Handbook
  • Demonstrate their understanding and ability to manually operate failed power points motors in line with relevant rules and regulations

Learning Approach for the Points Operator (PO) Course

Classroom based theory and practical exercises with some on-site practical exercises. Theory and practical assessments are included.

Features of the Points Operator (PO) Course

Following successful completion of the course the candidates new sentinel card will be updated with the competence (AOD PO) which will be valid for a period of two years.
